The Value Compass provides companies or brands specific guidelines for developing a powerful and distinctive positioning strategy. By using psychological knowledge on the functioning of the human value system, the Value Compass guides brands to strengthen their brand image by creating a strong and consistent value proposition.
Erik J. Kostelijk (1969) has a background in economics and marketing. He gained his PhD in October 2016. During his research, he developed the Value Compass in an extensive quantitative study of personal values and brand values in several countries (The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Chili, and China). The book "The Influence of Values on Consumer Behavior" was based on the outcomes of his PhD research.
Erik has worldwide experience as project leader research and professional trainer on a variety of projects for profit, non-profit and governmental organisations. One of his current projects is aimed at customer-oriented innovation in the food market. In this project, the Value Compass is used in support of strategic innovation decisions. He is a member of the marketing research group Marklinq of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, where he is also involved in a number of master programs.
Erik also holds a position at the Amsterdam School for International Business, where he works for a number of minor programs, amongst which City Marketing in Europe, Building Partnerships in Asia, and the Consumer Branding Program.
